So, Cancun was incredible...too much to write about. But here goes...we arrived in the airport around 2:30 or so in the afternoon on Monday and had to wait in customs lines for about an hour, which was a bummer, but a good lesson in patience and we knew it would totally be worth it! We took a transport service, which Bert had already lined up, to our resort, Live Aqua Cancun, which I highly recommend, by the way. The drive was about 20 minutes to the hotel zone, as they call it. We could already see the turquoise waters and the palm trees and my heart was giddy!! The driver was super nice and gave us lots of pointers on what to see on our 5 night stay in his city. We arrived at our all-inclusive resort and it was like entering a whole new world. Live Aqua is adults only because they focus on total relaxation and pampering the senses. Who knew screaming and running kids aren't soothing to an adults relaxation seeking senses?! Live Aqua is definitely not a "party" resort, while they do offer some nightlife, there is no loud music, crazy drinkers or dancers; just an FYI. There was a beautiful infinity fountain in the lobby and the smell of eucalyptus everywhere. They played what sounded to me like soothing Asian instrumental music. We were greeted by the friendliest staff. They gave each of us a glass of cold tea, a cool washcloth, scented in eucalyptus to clean our faces and hands with, then we each received a hand massage...SO relaxing. We were shortly led to our room, which was cleaner than clean and just beautiful with incredible views. Live Aqua boasts aromatherapy, a spa, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, plus a swim-up pool bar with built in bar stools, room service 24/7, a stocked refrigerator in every room, with water, soda, beer and fresh snacks, maid service, turn down service, a fun gift shop, a hair salon, a very nice workout center, a coffee shop, and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. I give this place 5 stars. Absolutely incredibly. We were most fond of the infinity pool. We spent many hours just hanging out over it looking out at the sea; amazing! While sitting by any of their 7 pools, all different temps., the waiters come to you for drink orders and they even serve food by the pool. I never realized how incredible all-inclusive would really be. You can literally have whatever you want whenever you want it! We met a friend at the swim-up bar named Philip. He worked there and we would let him mix us up whatever concoctions he considered his specialties. His mojitos were out of this world and I had several (I can't remember their name!) drinks that had cucumber, lime and vodka...so refreshing! He was so kind and we spent hours talking with him about his family, his wife, kids, faith (he is Catholic) and he was truly a friend. When we'd come back the next day he would smile and say "My friends!" He got brownie points because he met me after he'd spent a few hours talking with Bert and he when he asked my name, he said, "Courtney-as in beautiful." I KNOW he doesn't say this to every patron, y'all ;-) Every single thing we consumed that week was incredible. We got room service 3 times-yum! Had poolside nachos and burgers-yum! And fancy gourmet type dinners at the restaurants-yum! Bert and I thoroughly enjoyed each other and it was totally a honeymoon :-) We mainly stayed in the resort but did take a ferry to the Isla Mujeres for one day. I definitely recommend this to anyone who visits Cancun. It's a small island filled with vendors, and all kinds of authentic Mexican cantinas and is SO FUN! I even got my hair braided while we were there. We rented a golf cart and drove all over the island. It was so beautiful. Clear water on one side and deep turquoise on the other. The island is only 5 miles wide, so it makes for a great day excursion, while in Cancun. To wrap it all up in a word, this trip was just heavenly and we're already looking into when we'll be able to go back!
